In elementary school, I was the kid that took the Monopoly board game way too seriously. I knew the importance of knowing the rules, the value of each property, the utility of mortgaging, the importance of timing, the basic concept of negotiation and above all, how to manage my money! I wasn’t the most pleasant player but I was really good at it. I played the game as if we were using real money.
After receiving my bachelor’s degree in finance, I worked as a personal banker, a mortgage broker specialist, invested in real estate and finally created a few start ups. Time flies by so fast! After years of running my own businesses, I still didn’t feel fulfilled in my job. I wasn’t sure what exactly but I knew that I needed to find that missing “it” factor to make me truly happy.
One day, as I was explaining a complex strategy to a professor, he told me that I was very good as simplifying such complex strategies and was really patient. These attributes could make me a great teacher if I wanted to. This “AHA” moment made me think about teaching because I do enjoy sharing my knowledge with everyone. Becoming a teacher was not something that I truly wanted. On the other hand, talking and giving advice about finance and real estate was always something that I loved to do. What job could combine my love for finance, real estate and teaching at the same time? Yes! You guessed right, a real estate broker.
Even though, the answer was clear to me now, back then, I felt that becoming a realtor was a step down in terms of jobs. Furthermore, real estate brokers didn’t and still don’t have a great reputation. Most of the population still feel that a realtor is good for nothing besides putting a sign up and taking people’s money. So for those two reasons, I put that possibility on ice.
A few years later and still not fulfilled about my job situation, I decided to go ahead and try to become a real estate broker. This is the single best decision in my life! Realtors are not well perceived from the population but I tell myself that I cannot change people’s perception about this industry but I can make a difference one client at a time.
Today, with my extensive background in finance, work experience and my love to share my know-how, I have been able to make the most novice clients become a smarter and savvier buyer, seller or investor. There is nothing more satisfying for me than seeing my clients applying my concepts and becoming successful in their own way. That puts a smile on my face every single time. I’m excited to wake up every day and do my job. I’m truly happy.
So if you’re looking for a realtor that is passionate about his job and takes time to advise his clients right, then give me a call. We might be able to master Monopoly in the real world together!
